Four local scouts will be joining over 37,000 Boy Scouts from all across America and many foreign countries, when they leave on July 23rd to attend the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Ft. AP Hill Virginia. Located near Bowling Green, Virginia, Ft. AP Hill is a 76,000 acre U.S. Army facility that has served as the site for the National Jamboree, since 1981.

This year's Jamboree will be celebrating "100 Years of U.S. Scouting" and will honor the 100th Anniversary of the scouting program in the United States. The scouts will participate in an array of activities including the merit badge midway, arts and sciences, a re-creation of Baden Powell's original scout camp on Brownsea Island, and American Indian Village, regional entertainment stages, and arena shows. They will have opportunities to experience trap shooting, rappelling, scuba diving, kayaking, rafting, sailing, bikeathlons, buckskin games, confidence building courses, a conservation trail, and much more.

The 2010 National Jamboree will be a "city within itself" as the over 45,000 scouts and leaders converge on the encampment for this year's event, scheduled for July 26th - August 4th.

The local scouts plan a siteseeing trip to Washington D.C., on their way to the encampment and touring several other points of interest, while on the Eastern U.S. Coast.

Local scouts attending this year's event include: Jarred Cowley, Ryan Moore, Colton Morrow, and Jacob Neal.
