Sulphur Springs ISD to Officially Break Ground
On New Middle School, July 22
From SSISD
The dirt will fly on July 22 at 9:00 a.m., officially breaking ground on the new Sulphur Springs Middle School. The public and future students are invited to a 35-minute ceremony marking the beginning of the actual construction phase at 835 West Posey Lane.
Superintendent Patsy Bolton will welcome visitors and recognize special guests along with the SSISD Board of Trustees. Board President, Jacquelyn Brice will bring remarks from the board. The Facilities Committee, who marketed the school bond, will be recognized. Chairman Ryan McKenzie will bring remarks from the committee.
Future student representatives will turn the first shovels of dirt, assisted by the SSISD Board to symbolize the onset of the construction phase. Following the ceremony, students in the audience will be invited to participate as the shovels are shared for others to celebrate the beginning of their new school. Parents are invited to bring their cameras.
The school was designed with staff and teacher input by Claycomb Architects of Dallas and will be constructed by J. T. Turner Construction Company.
Dirt work for the new Sulphur Springs Middle School is presently underway. The 161,300 square foot school will open during the 2011 school year for sixth, seventh and eighth graders.
Meeting Texas Education Agency standards, the two-story school features standard, science lab and fine arts classrooms. Three student computer labs and a state of the art media center will take advantage of the latest technology.
Drawings of the new school are available for public viewing in the SSISD superintendent’s office or on the district’s web page at www.ssisd.net
