Sulphur Bluff Scholarship Dinner & Auction
Raises $18,000.00 For Students

by: Bobby McDonald

It was a large crowd of former students, teachers, and community supporters, that gathered in Sulphur Bluff, on last Saturday night, for the annual Sulphur Bluff Scholarship Dinner and Auction. The annual event raises money to aid Sulphur Bluff graduating seniors in accomplishing their college education goals.

Saturday night's dinner and auction, that was catered by Andy and Mary Lou Wright's, Birthwright BBQ, raised approximately $18,000.00 to help advance students in attaining their educational goals. Last year, the Sulphur Bluff Scholarship Foundation funded more than $10,000.00 to graduating seniors.

This year's auction featured a number of unique items, including 4 Dallas Cowboy tickets, that brought $500.00; a Christmas cross-stitch sampler for $275.00; John Deer and Case Toy tractors that were purchased by 5 year old twins (don't we know they are having a good time this week); and a bevy of those delicious homemade desserts from the cooks of Sulphur Bluff. Two Italian Cream cakes brought $170.00 each, a German Chocolate cake brought $150.00; and a Carrot cake brought $115.00.

Scholarships Foundation members want to express their sincere thanks to all of the sponsors and supporters, who came out and helped to raise the funds for this year's students. "Of course, the students are the reason we work so hard to raise this money," expressed Judy Jones, Sulphur Bluff Counselor. "But, it's great to see members of the community join us in helping students to reach educational goals. Everyone benefits when a child is able to learn and build a future career!"
