

Saltillo Students Graduate from D.A.R.E. Program

The local Hopkins County Sheriff's Office just graduated the Saltillo 6th grade D.A.R.E. class, 5-19-10.
A slide show chronicling the progression to the graduation was shown at the graduation to parents, SISD faculty, and other guests. The guest speaker was Brian Beadle, Dallas County Deputy Constable and Saltillo Volunteer Fire Department Chief.
Comencment was concluded with D.A.R.E. diplomas D.A.R.E. graduate lapel pins given to the graduates. Graduates were also given a letter for their parents entitled "How to Talk to Your Child About Drugs." This letter acts as a map to guide parents who may become at a loss of words when disscussing the topics of drugs, alcohol, and violence. Students were also given a copy of the slide show and were congratulated by the Sheriff, guests, and D.A.R.E. Coordinator, Brad Cummings.
Cummings is ending his first year as D.A.R.E. officer for the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office.
"I am proud of all the students that I have had the plessure of guiding to a safe and healthy decision making lifestyle. I would also like to extend appreciation to all six rural school districts and the teachers that allowed me to come into their class rooms," states Cummings. "I look forward to continuing helping the students of Hopkins County make healthy and safe decisions!"
