Precinct #1 Constable, Roger "Tex" Maynard
Roger "Tex" Maynard Announces
Retirement at End of Year
by: Bobby McDonald
Hopkins County natives were surprised at Roger "Tex" Maynard, submitting his letter of resignation from his post at Constable Precinct #1, effective December 31, 2010. "Some things just aren't suppose to ever change," allowed Judge Yvonne King. "And, the ones of us who have been reared in Hopkins County, can hardly remember a time when 'Tex' hasn't been in local law enforcement!"
"The people that I gave tickets to when I was with DPS are in the nursing homes now!" quipped Maynard.
"There's still some of us around that haven't gotten there yet!" related some of us!
Roger "Tex" Maynard has devoted almost a half-century to law enforcement in Hopkins County. He began with a 29 year career as a Department of Public Safety Officer, retired from that job, and then served years, as a Special Texas Ranger, before running for the position of Constable Precinct #1, that he has held for the past 18 years. "I've seen many, many changes in law enforcement, during the 48 years I've been involved," related Maynard. "When I first began, it was just the beginning of drugs being a problem in our society, and I've about seen it all!"
Maynard stated that he plans to spend more time with his family and pursue some of the hobbies he enjoys. "I've got grandkids and great-grandkids, that are growing up and I want to continue to be a part of their lives, and enjoy these formative years," related Tex. "You only go around once in this life and I want to take advantage of some of the things that I want to do, and I'll probably spend some more time with my horses!"
Judge Yvonne King shares a laugh with Roger "Tex" Maynard, on Wednesday morning, as
he anticipates his retirement, at the end of the year.

"I'll still be around and you can find me, probably ' in the dog house' that Marie has built for me, out behind our house!" joked Maynard. "I'll still be out at my place in Martin Springs and will likely be spending time with my family in Reilly Springs too!"
The word is that he hasn't volunteered to milk cows for Tammy and Junior Hinton, yet! But, stranger things have happened. "I just don't think those rubber boots would fit my feet!" quipped Tex.
"We're going to be lost around here without him!" allowed Judge King. "Roger has just been part of our daily lives for so long, we're going to be calling him at home and asking him what to do!"
Congratulations to Roger, on his retirement, and we look forward to seeing him around, as he enjoys his family and continues to be a "moving force" in Hopkins County!
The commissioner's court will appoint someone to fulfill the unexpired term of Constable Precinct #1, beginning January 1, 2011.
Roger "Tex" Maynard receives hugs from the ladies in the Justice of the Peace office, as he announces
his retirement, effective December 31, 2010.
Congratulations, Roger, on a
very successful career in local
law enforcement!!!
