Issues Challenge For More Youth Teams
Press release from RFL
The youth of Hopkins County are on a mission.a mission to raise funds for cancer research! The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is encouraging more youth teams to register for the May 1-2 event at the Sulphur Springs Middle School track.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer. "Relay For Life is a great way for students to get involved in their community in a fun event and help save the lives of those facing cancer," said Lee Gifford, Youth Recruitment Chairperson. "Students, who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting event, as a volunteer, or participant, are taking responsibility and making a commitment to the fight against cancer and they're letting the community know that cancer can be beat."

Some of the youth teams already registered are Saltillo FCCLA (Family Career Community Leaders of America)two teams, Cumby Science Team, Cumby Athletic Team, North Hopkins Beta Club and SSHS Blue Blazes. Church youth groups are also encouraged to form teams for the Relay. Youth teams are made up of 10-15 Middle School and High School age students with at least one adult sponsor.
"We are so proud of our youth teams," said Tony Aguilar, Relay For Life of Hopkins County Chairperson. "These kids work hard to raise funds for this cause and have a great time doing it. I know Saltillo FCCLA Team recently had a Hamburger Lunch and raised around $300 in a couple of hours. We want to encourage more youth teams to get involved and catch the excitement of Relay."
