Storm Clouds Gathered But It Didn't "Dampen"

A few storm clouds may have been gathering and a little bit of rain began to fall, but nothing was going to "dampen" the spirits for living at Friday night's 2010 Relay For Life event, hosted at the Middle School Track. Residents young and old celebrated victory over cancer and pledged their support for finding a cure, as the schedule of events began with the singing of the national anthem, posting of the colors by the Hopkins County Military Coalition, a presentation by the Greenville ROTC Unit, and the highlight of the night, The Survivor's Walk.

"It's just heart warming to watch these survivors walk around the track, as they celebrate their personal and family victories over cancer," expressed one on-looker. "To see the courage they represent gives me hope that I can beat almost anything!"

This year's theme of "celebrating another birthday" was carried out throughout the campsites, decorations, and t-shirts, as participants played games, posed for pictures, and generally celebrated the victory of living! "Cancer has touched the lives of almost all of us in Hopkins County!" exclaimed Tony Aguilar. "And, tonight, although it is bitter-sweet, as we remember our loved ones who have passed on, we can celebrate the times we had together and can applaud the victories of our friends and neighbors who continue to fight the good fight of overcoming this disease! We're all searching for a cure!"

Throughout the night, activities, music, and speakers were scheduled to bring messages of hope and entertainment to the large crowd that gathered for the celebration!
