For most folks that grew-up in the 1970's, they were "swearing" that they didn't quite look like that! But, yes, Sulphur Springs Middle School students came to school on Monday with tye-dyed t-shirts, headbands, peace signs, and faded jeans, that were "groovy" back in the 1970's, when their parents and teachers were students in school!
One middle school teacher asked me "if she really looked like that, when she came to high school at what is now the middle school," and I promptly told her that "sure enough she did, and maybe even worse!"
However, students at the middle school were celebrating the beginning of Red Ribbon Week's Anti-Drug Week, as they conducted "Peace-Out to Drugs" and made an attempt to imitate the 1970's fashions.

It's just a great way to get the students enthused about the program and for everyone to have a little bit of fun," advised the staff at Sulphur Springs Middle School.

"I didn't see anyone with cool 'bell-bottomed' pants like I wore back in the 1970's," advised another male teacher. "These kids don't even have a clue how cool it was back then!"

Monday, and every day this week, students all across Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County will be "getting wacky," dressing-up, and bringing to the forefront the fight against alcohol and drug abuse. "I can't think of anything more important!" stated Patsy Bolton, Superintendent of Sulphur Springs Schools. "We have to use whatever methods that we can to make certain that we make students aware of the dangers and prepare them to make positive decisions when confronted with the abuses that create such an impact in our society!"

Some of these teachers at Middle School certainly knew what the fashion was in the 1970's.
Join the fun in Hopkins County, this week, and encourage your children, your grandchildren, and other youth to carry the anti-drug and alcohol message throughout our community!"

And, some of us can remember when Coach Diamond looked like this, when he was
going to ETSU!!!
