Saturday's Ranch Rodeo Offers
Spills and Thrills For Everyone

by: Bobby McDonald

If it was Western music, cowboy cooking, and a good time, then folks were certainly enjoying themselves on Saturday evening, and the Ranch Rodeo hadn't even started. The chuck wagons were circled and the aroma of chicken fried steak, cobblers, and everything good were wafting from the Dutch ovens, as a Western band played favorites from the Coca Cola Soundstage at the Civic Center. Meanwhile, ten teams of cowboys were "warming up" for the wild performance that was to unfold in the arena. The teams represented ranches from all across Hopkins County and from as far away as Wildarado, in the Texas Panhandle.

"I'm so full, I don't know if I'll be able to sit through the rodeo!" exclaimed one local cowboy, as he complete his way around a chicken fried steak!

However, once the action began in the arena, there was no sleeping going on! Some of the roughest and most stubborn stock around gave the cowboys a "run for their money" as the teams competed in a number of events.
