"What Would 4th of July Be
Without a Rodeo?"
by: Bobby McDonald
In general 4th of July tradition, Hopkins County had it's own Ranch Rodeo, on Sunday afternoon, July 4th, in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, where cowboys and cowgirls competed in a variety of events from mugging, to sorting, and branding. The rodeo attracted some sixteen competitive teams and loads of spectators, who enjoyed the traditional rodeo activities, as a way of celebrating our nation's independence.
Things got "a little rough" as competition became keen, between the team efforts in the various events. In some of the contests, the cattle definitely "won" as they bested the riders in a number of contests, but other teams managed to catch their animals, perform the necessary tasks and score winning points.
"These ranch rodeos are really fun to watch," expressed local gasoline distributor, Randy Hall, who was at the rodeo to watch his grandson compete. "They are more of what you're out actually doing when you're working cattle in a ranch setting, than the events in a traditional rodeo!"

Enjoy the following photos of the competition at Sunday's event:
The Boot Race....
Local Cowboy, Dakota Hrabal, was the winner!!!
The Calf Scramble provided entertainment for the little folks!!!
There was plenty of time for spectators and competitors to
visit during the events.
