Vintage Railroad Tour To
Pass Through Sulphur Springs, Sunday
from supplied sources
A tour group of 30 to 50 people will be boarding a train in Greenville on Sunday morning, at 8:00 p.m., with their destination as Mt. Vernon. They are part of the Memorial Day weekend Motorcar Run, sponsored by the Railroad Partners, Inc. They are members of the North American Railcar Operators Association.
Local citizens and the public are invited to come out to see these vintage railroad cars as they pass through Sulphur Springs, headed for Mt. Vernon. There will be approximately 20 to 25 of the rail cars on the excursion, ranging in age from the 1940's to the 1980's. Some of the engines in the group are as old as the 1920's.

The train will be traveling on the Blackland Railroad line, formerly the Cotton Belt line, and will make the 110 mile round-trip, with plans to be in Mt. Vernon for lunch and shopping, and then pass back through Sulphur Springs later in the afternoon, Sunday.
Anyone wanting to take the excursion may contact Leland Stewart, excursion coordinator, at 10057 Palomino Canyon, Converse, Texas 78109, or call at (210)945-9268.
If you don't want to spend the day, make plans to come out with the kids and wave to the train and its riders, as they pass thru Sulphur Springs on Sunday morning, or as they make the return trip back on Sunday afternoon!
