PJC Announces GED and ESL Classes

from PJC

Paris Junior College Adult Education and Family Literacy
will hold intensive GED (General Educational Development) and ESL
(English as a Second Language) programs during the spring semester,
according to Director Louisa Kessel.

The eight-week class sessions begin the week of Jan. 19
and again on March 22, (except where otherwise noted on the class
schedule). Students should pay close attention to the alterative class
stated dates for new students versus returning students in some
locations.

Students select the class day, time and location of the
course they would like to attend and come to that class at the time
and location stated in the schedule.

GED and ESL classes are offered at no cost. However,
participation and a commitment to attend each class day are essential
to help students accomplish their learning goals.

Sixteen-year-olds must provide a copy of the court order
stating that they are required to attend Adult Education (GED) classes
offered through Paris Junior College. Seventeen-year-olds must provide
an official withdrawal from high school for class admission. Students
must bring these documents to the first class, or they will not gain
entry into the program.

Paris campus day classes meet from 8:30-11:30 a.m. each
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Rheudasil Learning Center on
the PJC campus. New students begin Jan. 19 or March 23. Returning
students begin Jan. 26 or March 23.

Night classes meet from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday. New students begin Jan. 19 or March 23.
Returning students begin Jan. 26 or March 23.

English as a Second Language/Citizenship classes meet
from 6-9 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. New and returning
students begin Jan. 19 or March 22. ESL day classes meet from 9 a.m.
to noon, Monday through Wednesday, at Justiss Elementary School with
childcare provided. New and returning students begin Jan. 25 or March
22.

GED classes will be held in Cooper at the First Baptist
Church from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each Monday and Thursday. New and returning
students begin Jan. 25.

GED classes are also available in Sulphur Springs and ESL classes are
available at Como-Pickton High School.
