PJC Announces Continuing Ed
Courses for October

Paris Junior College's Continuing Education Department has scheduled a 
wide selection of classes for the month of October, according to 
Associate Dean of Workforce Education Dr. Charles George.

Childcare
A Child Development Associate class will meet from 6-9 p.m., each 
Monday and Wednesday, October 4 through March 21. After successful 
completion of this 120 hour comprehensive course, the individual must 
complete a direct assessment package and request a verification site 
visit. The CDA credential will be awarded upon completion and a 
successful site evaluation and exam.

The Child Care Pre-Service class is scheduled on an individual basis.

for all new employees in regulated child care facilities.

Computer
The Welcome to the World of Computers class will be held from 5-9 
p.m., Monday through Thursday, Oct. 11-14. Students will learn basic 
computer tasks using windows; proper mouse and keyboard techniques, 
computer lingo; how to navigate the Internet, social networking; 
email; and more.

The Microsoft Word 2007 Basic class is scheduled from 5-9 p.m., Monday 
through Thursday, Oct. 18-21. This word processing program teaches 
creating, saving and opening documents; editing documents; cut/copy/
paste and find/replace functions; formatting text and paragraphs; and 
creating and formatting tables.

The Microsoft Excel 2007 Basic class will meet from 5-9 p.m., Monday 
through Thursday, Oct. 25-28. This electronic spreadsheet class will 
offer instruction to create a worksheet; work with formulas and 
functions; format a worksheet; work with charts; and analyze data 
using formulas.

The Understanding Windows class at the PrimeTime Center will be held 
from 9 a.m. to noon, each Thursday, Oct. 7-21. Students will learn to 
create, save and find files; use windows explorer and learn how to 
manage and manipulate files and directories.

 

 

 

 



Driving
The Defensive Driving class is offered by Paris Junior College #067 in 
accordance with the standards established by the National Traffic 
Safety Institute of Texas, Inc. under license #C0297. The class will 
meet from 6-9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 18-19. This class 
consists of six hours of classroom instruction and may be applied 
toward insurance discount or, in some instances, for traffic ticket 
dismissal.

The Driver's Education class is open to students at least 15 years of 
age. A birth certificate, verification of enrollment form  and social 
security card must be provided.  The class meets from 4-6 p.m., Monday 
through Thursday, Oct. 25 through Nov. 18.

Health Care/Medical
The Physical Therapy Technician class prepares students to enter the 
growing field of physical therapy as a physical therapy technician. 
The class will be held from 6-9 p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 
5 through Dec. 2. After the third class, students will meet at the 
clinic for comprehensive training and instruction.

The Basic Life Support (CPR) class approved by the American Heart 
Association will be held in a choice of two time frames.  The day 
class meets from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8. An evening 
class will be offered from 5:30-9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 
25-26.

The Dental Assistant class is scheduled from 6-9:30 p.m., each Tuesday 
and Thursday, Oct. 5 through Dec. 14. There will also be four Saturday 
sessions that run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This class prepares students for entry level positions in Dental

The Basic Life Support (CPR) Recertification for Health Professionals 
will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 15. This is a update 
and review course for current CPR certified cardholders. Written 
examination and successful demonstration of skill is required to 
successfully complete this course.

A comprehensive Pharmacy Technician class will meet from 6-9:30 p.m., 
each Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 18 through Dec. 8. This class prepares 
students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy 
Technician Certification Board PTCB exam.

An ACLS Provider Course is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 
Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 19-20. This class is designed in 
accordance with American Heart Association standards. Participants 
must be able to demonstrate CPR skills during the course.

Language
Spanish for Fun Part I will be held from 6:30-8 p.m., each Monday, 
Oct. 4 through Dec. 13. This class offers a practical and functional 
use of Spanish in a very short period of time.

Parenting
The Kids Hurt Too seminar is designed to help parents understand the 
needs of their children throughout the process of divorce. The seminar 
will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Personal Enrichment
  Beginning Genealogy: Where's Your Roots is scheduled from 8:30-11:30 
a.m. on Monday and Thursday, Oct. 4 and 7. Participants will learn the 
basis of census records, obituary research, creating a family tree and 
more. Students should bring a flash drive if they want to save all of 
their valuable research.

Workforce Development
An Electricians, Journeymen, Wireman and Masters MCE for License 
Renewal will meet from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15. This course is 
approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations and 
meets the continuing education requirements for electricians to renew 
their license. The class is presented under provider #1073.

An Air Conditioning MCE for License Renewal will be held from 8 a.m. 
to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16. This session offers intensive training 
in HVAC to update knowledge and skills and the knowledge in code 
classifications of refrigerant systems, human comfort, refrigeration 
machinery room, refrigerant piping containers and valves, erection of 
refrigerant piping, refrigerant control valves and pressure relief 
devices.
