April Continuing Education Courses

Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department
will offer a varied selection of classes during the month of April,
according to Dean Kevin Rose.
Computer
An Adobe Dreamweaver class will meet from 6-9 p.m. each
Monday, April 6-27.
This training will take the student from learning all the basic
functions to fully understanding how to get Web sites up and running.
A Microsoft Excel Basic 2003 class will be held from 6-9
p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, April 7-16. This is an electronic
spreadsheet application class.
The Microsoft Excel 2007 Basic class is scheduled from
6-9 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, April 7-16. This class covers
creating a worksheet, working with formulas and functions; formatting
a worksheet; working with charts; and analyzing data using formulas.
Web Page Design for Beginners is a workshop to teach
basic web page design, how to plan, structure and build a web page
and web site using hands-on instruction. This session will meet from
6-9 p.m. each Thursday, April 9-23.
Welcome to the World of Computers is designed for anyone
who has very limited, if any, computer training. The class will be
held from 8:30 a.m. to noon, each Friday, April 24 through May 1.

Computing for Senior Adults (55+)
These classes are held at the PrimeTime location.
Computer Fun for Seniors is a session to introduce
gaming and how to find out if the site one is visiting is secure.
Learn to play Hearts and Spades, Checkers and Chess, Poker and more.
The class meets from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday and Thursday, April 7-14.
Understanding Personal Computers will teach basic
computer use to the novice. The class will be held from 1-4 p.m.,
Tuesday and Thursday, April 7-14.
Understanding Windows is scheduled from 1-4 p.m.,
Tuesday and Thursday, April 16-23. This class will offer instruction
in creating, saving, and finding files.
Surfing the Web will introduce participants to the
Internet including using e-mail, home page, and how to perform basic
research to address company or business needs. The class will meet
from 1-4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, April 28 through May 5.
Driver’s Education/Defensive Driving
The Driver’s Education class is approved by the Texas
Department of Public Safety and is open to students at least 15 years
of age. A birth certificate, TEA Attendance Voucher, and social
security card must be provided. The class is held from 4-6 p.m.,
Monday through Thursday, April 6-30.
Defensive Driving is offered by Paris Junior College,
under provider #067, in accordance with the standards established by
the National Traffic Safety Institute of Texas, Inc., license #C0297,
and consists of six hours of classroom instruction. It will be held
from 6-9 p.m. on April 20-21.
Health Care/Medical
The ACLS Provider Renewal Course will meet from 8:30
a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7. It will be repeated on April 8.
This is an update and review course for current ACLS certified
cardholders. Written examination and successful demonstration of
skills is required.
An ACLS Provider Course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5
p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 21-22. This class is designed in
accordance with the American Heart Association standards.
The Basic Life Support (CPR) class approved by the
American Heart Association offers instruction in lifesaving skills or
respiratory and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and
infants. The class will be offered five times during April. Classes
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be given on April 11 and 24. Classes
meeting from 5:30-9:30 p.m. will be given on April 6-7; 15-16; and
27-28.
Basic Life Support (CPR) Recertification for Health
Professionals will meet from 8 a.m. to noon on April 10. It will be
repeated from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on April 13 and April 21. The American
Heart Association certifies this update and review for current CPR
certified cardholders. Written examination and successful
demonstration of skills is required.
A Nurse Aide class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Monday through Thursday, April 6-22. This class offers preparation
for entry-level assistants to provide basic care to residents of long-
term care facilities.
A Forensic Nursing Seminar will be held from 1-5 p.m. on
Tuesday, April 28. This seminar is designed to heighten the awareness
of the registered nurse’s role in responding to the bio-psycho-social
care of all patients including those that are victims or suspects of
violent crimes. This session should encourage nurses to see further
education in the field to enable them to give comprehensive care to
all patients with respect to the patient’s forensic needs, including
the responsibility of testifying in court on behalf of patients.
Social Service
The Bridges Out of Poverty seminar will give social
service providers and community members key lessons in dealing with
individuals from poverty. The seminar will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30
p.m. on April 15. Scholarships are available by request for foster
parents and CPS workers. This seminar is approved for seven CEU’s
from the Texas Board of Social Workers, Licensed Professional
Counselors (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT).

Parenting
The Kids Hurt Too seminar is designed to help parents
understand the needs of their children throughout the process of
divorce. The seminar meets from 6-9 p.m. on April 7.
Floral Design
A Basic Floral Design class is scheduled from 8 a.m. to
5 p.m. on April 17 and 18. This class gives students an introduction
to color theory and applications; flow ad foliage identification;
seasonal designs; event designs; and where to find great flowers year
round.
Cake Decorating
The Cake Decorating class will meet from 8 a.m. to 5
p.m. on April 24 and 25. Participants will learn and practice piping,
a variety of borders, garlands, embellishments, simple flowers,
roses, and basket weaves.

Photography
Demystifying Your Digital Camera shows how a camera
works and offers tips and techniques to optimize your camera for your
specific needs. The class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon, each
Friday, April 3-10.

Real Estate
A Real Estate MCE Update will be held from 8:30 a.m. to
5 p.m. on April 3-4. This course, #15-06-129-6572, is offered by
provider #0067, and is approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission
for 15 hours of MCE credit. The class offers 12 hours in legal topics
and 3 hours in ethics.
The Real Estate MCE Ethics class meets N.A.R.
requirement for four-year renewal. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to
noon on April 3.
The Real Estate Math class will be held from 5:30-9:30
p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, April 7-30. The class offers
mathematical logic and basic arithmetic skills including percentages,
interest, time-valued money, depreciation, amortization, proration,
and estimation of closing statements.
Small Business Development
Recruit and Hire Good Employees seminar explains the
services offered by the Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas system.
This seminar will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on April 2.
How to Start Your Own Business is a seminar that shows
participants what it takes to start and operate a small business.
The seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on April 3.
An Invention Commercialization seminar is scheduled from
1-3 p.m. on April 3. Topics will include how to determine the market
size, demand for a product, best method of making and distributing a
product (make vs. license).
The Patent, Trademark and Copyright Laws session will be
held from 10 a.m. to noon on April 3. Participants will learn how to
register a copyright, select and register a trademark, and how to
evaluate creative products for patent protection.
Quickbooks Point of Sale offers solutions that are
important to a retailer’s success for the full cycle of inventory
steps including purchase orders, receiving of inventory, returns to
vendors, sales orders, sales receipts, reporting, and more. The class
will meet from 1:30 to 5 p.m. each Tuesday, April 7-14.
A New Taxpayer (Sales Tax) seminar will be offered from
10-11:30 a.m. on April 23. This seminar will be conducted by the
State Comptroller’s Office which provides services to Texas
businesses through its 32 locations across Texas.
What’s So Important About Customer Service? Successful
businesses know the answer. This session gives a light-hearted look
at customer service while pointing out many serious areas that may go
unnoticed in everyday business operations. This session will be held
from 6-9 p.m. on April 30.
