PJC Announces Continuing Ed
Courses for January

The Continuing Education Department at Paris Junior College will offer 
a selection of classes during the month of January, according to 
Associate Dean of Workforce Training and Continuing Education, Dr. 
Charles George.

Child Care
The eight-hour child care pre-service training is required of all new 
employees in regulated child care facilities. The course is scheduled 
on an individual basis. Before employment in a daycare center, the 
applicant must have a high school diploma or a GED. Call 903-782-0447

Computer
Understanding Personal Computers will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each 
Tuesday, Jan. 11-25. Participants will learn the basics for using a 
personal computer. This course is designed for the novice and uses a 
hands-on approach that offers preparation to take other computer 
courses. Basic touch typing skills would be helpful.

Welcome to the World of Computers will meet from 1-4 p.m., each 
Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 25 through Feb. 3. Participants will learn 
basic computer tasks using windows, proper mouse and keyboard 
techniques, computer lingo and "buzz" words, how to navigate the 
Internet, explore social networking, use e-mail and more.

 



Driver Education/Defensive Driving
The Driver's Education course is approved by the Texas Department of 
Public Safety for students at least 15 years of age. A birth 
certificate, VOE (verification of enrollment) and social security card 
must be provided. The class meets from 4-6 p.m., Monday through 
Thursday, Jan. 3-27.  The next session begins on January 31 and runs 
through Feb. 24.

The Defensive Driving course is offered by Paris Junior College #607 
in accordance with standards established by the National Traffic 
Safety Institute of Texas, Inc.,  under license #C0297.  The course 
consists of six hours of classroom instruction. The class will be held 
from 6-9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 10-11. This course may be 
applied toward insurance discounts or, in some instances, for traffic 
ticket dismissal.

Health Care/Medical
A Nurse Aide class will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday 
through Thursday, Jan. 10-26. This class provides preparation for 
entry level assistants to achieve a level of knowledge, skills, and 
abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term 
care facilities. A photo ID, social security card and criminal 
background release is required at registration.

 



A Basic Life Support (CPR) Re-certification for Health Professionals 
will be given from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Jan. 14. This is an 
update and review course for current CPR certified cardholders. 
Written examination and successful demonstration of skills is 
required. The American Heart Association certified this course.

The Basic Life Support (CPR) class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 
p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15. It will be repeated from 5:30-9 p.m. on 
Thursday and Friday, Jan. 27-28. This class is approved by the 
American Heart Association. The class gives instruction in the 
management of the adult, child, and infant who needs CPR or foreign 
body airway management, and respiratory (choking and near drowning) 
and cardiac emergencies.

A Medication Aide Update will be given from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 
Friday, Jan. 21. The content of this course fulfills the annual 
renewal requirements for certified medication aides according to 
specifications of the Texas Department of Health. Med aides should 
take this class one month before expiration of their certification card.

Parenting
The Kids Hurt Too seminar is designed to help parents understand the 
needs of their children throughout the process of divorce. It is a 
supportive, educational program to offer parents the knowledge 
necessary to nurture their children through this traumatic period of 
their lives. The seminar will meet from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, 
Jan. 8.

Dance
A Country and Western Dance class will include the basic two-step, 
three-step, double shuffle, Cotton-Eyed Joe, waltz, ten-step polka and 
the Electric Slide line dance. The class will be held from 6-8 p.m., 
each Thursday, Jan. 13-27.

entrance of the Bobby R. Walters Workforce Training Center located on 
the north side of the Paris Junior College campus.  College offices 
will close on December 17 and reopen on January 3.
