Dowdy Claims Another MVP,

Wins Bullfighting Title With Allard

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas – Chad Dowdy has been in this position before. Heck, it was just a year ago.

On Saturday night, the Bristow, Okla., athlete clinched back-to-back victories at the Texas Heritage National Bank PBR Challenge presented by Priefert Ranch Equipment and Pro-Trak Trailers benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas.

This year, he and his partner, Evan Allard of Vinita, Okla., represented Team City National Bank all the way to the Professional Bullfighters Daisy Protection Bullfight Tour event title at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. Dowdy was also named the event’s Most Valuable Player, something that isn’t new to the veteran bullfighter.

A season ago, Dowdy and then-teammate Wacey Munsell led Team CNB to the title. This year, he and Allard scored big points on both nights of the competition. They won both rounds – they split the opening round with Team Texas Heritage National Bank, Dusty Tuckness-Ross Hill, with 114 points, then split the second-round victory with Team Lonestar Dodge, Jason Magditch-Brodie Nelson, with 136 points. Their 250-point total bested Magditch and Nelson by just nine points in the cumulative score.

“It’s always nice to come to an event you’ve won before, and it’s even better when you win again,” said Dowdy, who has won more Daisy Protection Tour MVP awards than any other bullfighter.

Dowdy, left and partner, Evan Allard, took the PBF Crown, as the top bullfighters of the weekend
performances in Sulphur Springs.

While Dowdy won the bullfight, the bull Jed Clampett – owned by Jerry Nelson, Ivan Stoltzfus and the Jaynes Gang – won the American Bucking Bull Inc. Classic event, a competition of the bulls that bucked throughout the weekend.

Meanwhile, Colby Yates, who lived in Sulphur Springs for some time, was the only cowboy to hang on for the qualifying eight seconds on two rides. That earned him the second-round victory and the average championship for the contestants who competed Saturday night in the Professional Bull Riders Touring Pro Division event.

But they weren’t the only winners over the weekend. Because of the PBR Challenge, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas was the beneficiary of $9,069 in donations during the two days of competition in Sulphur Springs.
