Sulphur Springs Native Named
"Fireman of the Year"

Patrick Harris, a native of Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County, was recently honored by the Payne Springs Fire Department, as the "Firefighter of the Year." He was cited for his unusual dedication to the the department in responding to calls "sometimes on a bicycle!"

The honor was bestowed at the recent Payne Springs (near Malacoff) Fire Rescue Banquet, where Harris was given a trophy depicting the honor.

The 36 year old, Payne Springs Fire Rescue and has 44 members and a number of other volunteers. The department celebrated a great year when they figured that they had kept expenses in-line of $184,000.00 compared to the over $4 million dollars worth of property they had manage to save, not counting the many lives they had saved during the year.
