It was a group of parents of youth showing in the 2010 Hopkins County NETLA Market Show, that gathered in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, on Sunday afternoon, at 2:00 p.m., to learn about important dates, rules for the show, and the general information needed for competition. Eddie Lampp, President of the NETLA Organization outlined the general rules and called upon each of the class superintendents to address the crowd and focus on the rules for their particular species.

Jordan Blount will serve as this year's judge and the action will take place on Thursday night, February 25th, beginnng at 6:00 p.m.

The market swine show will unfold on Friday night, February 26th, at 6:00 p.m., and 95 pigs have been entered and tagged for the show. Thirty-five will be sold at auction, according to Chuck Askins, Swine Superintendent. Jack Dillard of Waskom, Texas, will be this year's judge. to discuss show rules and regulations.

And, Johnny Lennon, poultry superintendent, announced that chicks will arrive on January 12th, at 8:00 a.m., at the Sulphur Springs High School Vocational Agriculture Building, and that 64 Hopkins County youth had signed-up for a pen of broilers. Craig Roundsville will be this year's poultry judge.

Forty-two market steers have been tagged for this year's show and will be shown on Saturday, February 27th. Benny Whitworth, of near Henderson, TX, will be this year's steer judge, with the top 15 steers making the sale, if all of them arrive at the show.

In other information, it was announced that a new Intermediate Showmanship Class has been added to this year's show to aid the younger youth in competing more fairly. Junior Showmanship will be ages 8-10. Intermediate Showmanship will be youth ages 11-13, and Senior Showmanship will be devoted to youth 14 and over. "It just gives the beginning showman a chance to compete with those with more the same level of experience," expressed Lampp. "It just offers younger youth an opportunity to compete against the other children his or her own age and not be competing with those who have shown for maybe 5 years and already developed outstanding skills. It's difficult for the first time or two, for the younger children to compete with the experience out there and we're all about encouraging youth and helping them learn to be great showmen!"

The NETLA Organization will be working diligently supervising projects, making plans for the show, and contacting businesses all across Hopkins County to participate in this year's event. "We want to thank all of those dedicated individuals and businesses that see the importance of supporting our youth and ask them to continue their support this year, and to educate those businesses that may be new to the community, about the opportunities that are provided for our youth," expressed Lampp. "Anyone having questions about the show, sale, or preparations are invited to contact myself or any member of the NETLA Organization. We're all about teaching youth the values of responsibility, setting goals, and developing into outstanding citizens, through their youth livestock projects!"

Youth all across Hopkins County are working with livestock and poultry projects
in anticipation of the February 25-27, 2010 NETLA Market Show.
