"Oklahoma" Rehearsals Continue For
November Curtain

It was the first musical written by composer Richard Rogers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein, and is based on the Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grows the Lilacs. And, almost any afternoon or night, you can find members of the Sulphur Springs High School Drama Department working "feverishly" to perfect their parts, get their dance steps "in tune," and their vocals just right. The mid-November curtain is fast approaching!

"We've already called on a number of people from the community and school to help us with props, and have this wonderful windmill and house, constructed by the Sulphur Springs High School Vocational Agriculture Department," exclaimed Dawn Doyle, Drama Teacher and Director of the musical. "But, we've still got loads of other props to make and 'barter' for, in and around Hopkins County. I'm still looking for a 'buck rake,' if anyone has one!"

On Monday night, Doyle was working on perfecting some of the lines, dance steps, and projections of her lead characters, as they rehearsed in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. "We have a large, large cast, so we've got rehearsals almost any hour of the day or night, but everything is coming together," continued Doyle. "We've got some great talent and everyone is having fun with the production. However, I keep telling them that we only have one month before curtain!"

Doyle is waiting for football schedules, before she puts her production dates "in stone," but plans to "firm up" those plans and have her definite production dates, within the week. "We'll hopefully still be playing football in the play-offs, so we've got to find out if we play on Friday or Saturday, before we can set the definite night to open!" allowed Doyle.

Meanwhile it's Curly McClain, Laurey Williams, Jud Fry, Ado Annie, Will Parker, Gertie, traveling salesman, Ali Hakim, and Aunt Eller are all "coming to life," on the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center stage, as the rehearsals continue.

Watch for future announcement of dates, times, and ticket information, as one of the most memorable productions by the local High School Drama Department readies for production!
