Valedictorian                                                  Salutatorian

 

North Hopkins Names Top Grads and
Presents Class of 2009

 

North Hopkins Superintendent, Tommy Long, announced the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the 2009 Class at North Hopkins High School, this week. Valedictorian is Virginia Mae Thomas, daughter of Weldon Thomas and Diane Thomas. She has participated in volleyball, basketball, cross country, and softball, representing the Lady Panters in athletics. She also excelled by representing North Hopkins High School in UIL Headline Writing, Spelling, Number Sense, Ready Writing, and CX Debate. She advanced to the Regional level in Ready Writing and will be advancing to the state competiton in Solo Piana competition, later in the month. She was member of the Alliance Bank Junior Advisory Commitee and has scored a 32 on her ACT test. She has taken three concurent courses at PJC and will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall, majoring in business or music. She has taken six years of piano lessons and currently is working at Brookshire's Grocery Store, in Sulphur Springs. She enjoys playing the piano at Enloe Methodist Church and Lake Creek Methodist Church.

Class Salutatorian is Julia Tamsma, daughter of Piter Tamsma. Julia has been a member of Student Council for the past three years, serving as vice-president for her junior year and as president during her senior year. She participated in CX Debate and Extemporaneous Informative Speaking, and quailified for UIL State competition in both events. She has been a member of the Beta Club for the past four years and served as treasurer her senior year. She has been class treasurer for her four years of high school. She also represented the Lady Panthers in both volleyball and golf and was named the Defensive Player of the Year in Lady's Basketball her senior year. She qualified for regional in golf during her junior year. She has been a member of the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce High School Leadership Class and plans on beginning college at the University of Texas in Austin, this summer. Her future plans inclued entering the McCombs School of Business and majoring in accounting.
