North Hopkins ISD Fights Breast Cancer
And Supports Colleague

From Tracy Dennis, North Hopkins School

North Hopkins School knows the effects of breast cancer, "first hand!" They have a Pre-K teacher, Pam Butler, who is battling breast cancer. She was diagnosed this summer, has had a double mastectomy and is taking chemo treatments. She didn’t get to start school with them but came back in September.

At the end of September one of their Kindergarten teachers, Lorrie Farris, came up with the idea of getting a t-shirt designed and selling them, with the proceeds going to Pam to help with expenses. Tracy Dennis coordinated the Pink and Denim Day at North Hopkins School. They asked Tiffany Joslin, one of the aides, to design the t-shirt.

Everyone at North Hopkins ISD loves Mrs. Butler and wanted to help her out in any way they could. They did not advertise that they were doing this for her because they didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable with it. Plus, they wanted to surprise her with the effort.

Shirts were sold to the school, community, and friends for a week. Lonnie Fox at Gold’s printing did the shirts for them and they turned out fantastic. The response over the shirts was so overwhelming they ended up doing a second order.

Everyone wore their shirts every Tuesday in honor of Pam and all of the women who have fought breast cancer.

After paying the printing bills, this past Tuesday, November 9th, Lorrie and Tracy handed Pam a check for over $1300. "She tried to argue with us and tell us it was too much, but she didn’t get anywhere with that!!" related Tracy Dennis. "After all of the tears and hugs, Pam expressed how grateful and humbled she was by the efforts and support from the North Hopkins Community!!!"
