Nehemiah Foundation Delivers Home to
First Recipient in Time For Christmas
by: Bobby McDonald
December 15th will likely be a day that Glynis Harrison will remember for the rest of her life! Glynis was presented with the keys to her home, located at 722 S. Davis Street, on Tuesday morning, as the first recipient of a home through the Nehemiah Foundation. "This home represents a milestone in Glynis's life and the life of this community," expressed Valanderous Bell, a member of the Nehemiah Foundation Board. "Our mission is to work within the community and provide affordable housing for individuals that are deserving!"
City Manager Marc Maxwell then spoke and told how that some ten years ago, the City of Sulphur Springs had some 436 properties inside the city limits that had old and abandoned houses on them. Through a "clean up" campaign the city began making an effort to remove the homes that were dangerous to surrounding property. Well, the home located at 722 S. Davis Street was one of those homes and through the clean-up process, the city foreclosed on the property. Through the efforts, the property was then given to the Nehemiah Foundation and after working with local lenders and Glynis completing some money management courses, she was able to make application for the home for herself and her two children.

"It's a dream come true for me and my family," allowed Glennis. "And, right here in time for Christmas, I'm so greatful to all of those who have helped to make this possible."
Speaking on behalf of the lenders, Alliance Bank, City National Bank, and Guaranty Bond Bank, Craig Roberts, President of Guaranty Bond Bank, stated, "This is the kind of project that we as lenders are pleased to be able to jointly sponsor, and our employees have gotten involved with clean-up of the yard and the house, so that Glynis and her family could move in, just in time for Christmas! It's a great accomplishment for our entire community!"
Families that are interested in home ownership should contact The Nehemiah Foundation, located at 301 Gilmer St. Ste. B, Sulphur Springs, to learn about the application process and the necessary qualifications one must meet to apply.
Glynis Harrison ceremoniously opens the door to her new home, at 722 S. Davis Street, after
receiveing the keys from Valanderous Bell, with the Nehemiah Foundation.
