Odell Announces Candidacy For
Precinct #2 Commissioner
by: Bobby McDonald
Mike Odell, lifetime resident of Como, is seeking election for commissioner, Precinct 2.
Odell, age 56, is one of the top hay producers in the county. He has also owned and operated a successful dozer and excavation business for 15 years. Before which, he was a dairyman for 23 years.
“Since I’ve been a land owner and businessman in Hopkins County for 38 years, I know firsthand the challenges families are facing in these tough times. I have always been very conservative, and the taxpayer will always be at the front of my mind.” Odell said in an interview Monday. “I am confident that I am the voice the citizens of Precinct 2 want as their representative in the courthouse. Many of our roads are below standard and in need of repair. I look forward to this challenge because I know my experience in the industry has equipped me with all of the tools I need.”
When talking about the budgetary challenges all state and local governments are experiencing in this economic climate, Odell said laughing, “If the dairy business wasn’t enough, the dozer business has definitely taught me how to budget for a true rainy day.”
“Hopkins County has been a wonderful place to raise my family, and now as I watch my grandchildren grow up, I realized it is time for me to preserve the family values that I hold true,” Odell said. Mike and his wife of 38 years, Rose, have 2 children, Jill Odell Murray and husband Judd of Cooper and Cody Odell and wife, Rachel of Como. Mike and Rose have been members of the Como United Methodist Church for 33 years.
Maintaining an entrepreneur’s schedule does not lend itself to much down time. Yet, Mike has been an avid team roper for 40 years. He enjoys roping with his family and traveling to watch both of his children compete in rodeo events. However, these days his favorite pastime is playing with his two grandsons, Jake and Bill.
