Miller Grove Stew & Auction
Grosses Over $9,000.00 For Youth
by: Bobby McDonald
Murphy Howle served as the auctioneer for Friday night's FFA Auction,
in Miller Grove.
It was citizens from all across Hopkins County that traveled to Miller Grove on Friday night, to support the annual Miller Grove FFA Stew and Auction, hosted by the FFA Chapter to raise funds for their activities, for the coming year. "This is something to look forward to every year!" exclaimed County Commissioner Beth Wisenbaker. "It's an opportunity to see all your friends and neighbors and support the youth as they strive to learn leadership skills, technical skills, and advance their program!"
This brightly painted dog house was one of the "shop-made" items in Friday night's auction.
Residents from as far away as North Hopkins and Como-Pickton were on hand to support the youth, as they bid on shop-made items and a variety of items donated by Hopkins County businesses. "We enjoy getting out and coming to the country, every year!" expressed Tom Sellers, representing Alliance Bank. "It's an opportunity to support the youth and visit with all of our customers in this part of the county, and the ice cream and stew is awfully good, too!"

Friday night's auction featured items at auction from bunny rabbits and a large puppy, to feed troughs, horticultural products, gates, and savings bonds and haircuts. "We have a little bit of everything in the auction!" expressed Lindsey Potts, Vocational Agriculture Teacher at Miller Grove. "Our students work for months building projects for the event and then the businesses are so gracious to donate items to the auction as well. We want to say a huge thank you to all those who support us by donating items and purchasing them in the auction!"
And, these rabbits came with their own hutch, constructed by the FFA students.
"We're still adding up proceeds!" advised Vocational Agriculture Teacher, Richard Watson, on Monday morning. "But, we know we raised over $9,000.00, that will be use to travel to leadership contests, livestock shows, state and national conventions, and other activities that the youth will be involved with, in the coming year. We can't say 'Thank You' enough, to all those who supported our chapter, this year and in the past!"
"We can't express our thanks enough, to all the people who donated and then came and supported
our youth, tonight!" expressed Vocational Agriculture Teachers, Richard Watson and Lindsey Potts.
