Awards $10,000 Volunteer Service Grant to Meal A Day/Senior Citizens Center

Sulphur Springs, TX – Meal A Day/Senior Citizens Center, a local non-profit organization that furnishes nutritious meals to senior citizens who are ill, disabled or homebound has been awarded a Volunteer Service Grant in the amount of $10,000 from the W.H.O. (Women Helping Others) Foundation.

A special check presentation will take place during a Spa Your Community event on Friday, August 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Center on 150 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.

Director for BeautiControl Patricia Fisher submitted Meal A Day to W.H.O. for consideration for the Volunteer Service Grant. Patricia said, “I was very excited, knowing how much they need the funds to replace freezers that had gone out and be able to do the needed upgrades to the kitchen.”

One of Meal A Day/Senior Citizens Center’s main programs is delivering meals to senior citizens who are ill, disabled or homebound. The program is run by volunteers and on donations. But recently, the center lost two of their freezers and a refrigerator due to age. W.H.O.’s grant will help replace these items and help Meal A Day continue to update their kitchen.

Program Director Karon Weatherman says, “We will be using the funds to finish work on our kitchen. We have been trying to figure out a way to purchase some new equipment. We are in bad need of some new freezers and refrigerators. The grant is truly a blessing to the Meal A Day program.”

W.H.O.’s Volunteer Service Grant was established as a way to recognize those BeautiControl Independent Consultants for outstanding volunteer service in their community. Only BeautiControl Consultants may apply for this award, allowing them to give back to the community in which she works and lives.

“The generosity of our Independent Consultants and their supporters is overwhelming. It is because of them that we are able to touch so many lives,” says W.H.O. Foundation Executive Director Cindy Turek. “And because of the ever-growing number of BeautiControl Independent Consultants and associates, our ability to be generous continues to grow.”
