Local Meal-A-Day Program
Seeking Those Needing Services

Karon Weatherman is the Director of the Meal A Day Program here in Sulphur Springs and she is trying to build the food delivery routes back up. They have several openings on each of the 6 delivery routes.   Meal A Day is a food program that is run by Volunteers. These Volunteers come Monday through Friday to cook, package and deliver meals to seniors who are shut ins and are unable to cook for themselves.

"We are not a Government Run Food Program.  Therefore, we do not get any STATE FUNDING.  This program is not for people who are already on a State Funded Program such as 'Meals on Wheels,'" advised Weatherman.   "We only receive money from The United Way and FEMA. "

" If you know someone IN THE CITY LIMITS who might benefit from our Food Program, Please contact our office at (903) 885-1661 and we will have them complete and application to see if they qualify," included Weatherman.

These are the Qualifications to receive Meal A Day Food.

1. Must be a Senior Citizen

2. Must not be able to cook for themselves any longer

3. Must not have anyone who can cook for them

4. Must live alone or with elderly spouse who can not cook

5. Must live in the City Limits of Sulphur Springs (We do have a route that services the Como-Pickton area)

6. Must be willing to pay $ 1.50 a day for a lunch (We give enough food in the box to for 2 meals if they are not big eaters)

We do not have any "Special Dietary Meals" (low sodium, low carb, etc....) We do, however, give diabetics a diabetic dessert.
