Plan For Market Show In
Your 2011 Budgets

by: Bobby McDonald

Students all across Hopkins County have purchased their animals and are busy feeding, training, grooming, and preparing them for the upcoming 2011 Hopkins County Junior Market Show and Sale. "These youth have already committed to a personal investment of time and money, to learn the many, many benefits of agricultural animal projects," reminds Brad Johnson, member of the 2011 Market Show Sale Committee. "Now, it's up to us adults to get out and raise the funds to reward those youth who excel in making these investments. With year-end plans being made and looking forward to next year, it's time for all of us to make plans for a commitment to them!"

"I think Cal Farley about summed it up best when he said, 'A man never stands so tall, as when he stoops to help a child!'" continued Johnson. "These young people are learning lessons in life, that will pay huge dividends in their future, such as responsibility, timeliness, perseverance, and meeting other people. We in the community will pay for their future one way or the other....it's either by supporting them in these worthwhile endeavors or paying the taxes that support our jails and correctional institutions, and I don't know about you, but I'd much, much rather support them in becoming worthwhile citizens, than the alternative!"

"As we're constantly reminded throughout the Bible, our investments in others is what makes life worthwhile, and this is an important aspect of life for our youth in Hopkins County," stated Johnson. "The table below is a summary of the increased participation by youth in the Hopkins County Junior Market Show and the 2011 Show promises to even include more youth, we applaud the support of the business community in the past, who have so graciously supported the youth, and we ask for your continued support, and invite anyone who has not been involved, to participate in one of the largest single youth events in Hopkins County!"

Johnson, who co-chairs the Sales Committee with Frank Long, can be reached at (903)885-3143, for questions and on how you can become involved in helping the youth of Hopkins County reach their goals. No amount is too small and their is a place for everyone to support this giant youth effort.

"Certainly, the local economy has suffered some in the past few months," acknowledged Johnson. "But these youth are depending on us to fund their future college educations and to invest our time and effort in helping them reach their career goals. It's our responsibility to prioritize our resources and help them attain their goals!"

"If you don't have the funds to participate in the youth Market Sale, their are volunteer opportunities to work in the concession stand, help prepare meals, or to work with the task of installing pens, getting prepared for the show, and then the clean-up efforts, following the show," relates Johnson. "We need a host of volunteers to get the show hosted and the youth projects delivered to market. Make plans to become involved in one of the most worthwhile endeavors you will undertake in 2011!"

The 2011 Youth Market Show will be hosted in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, on February 24-26, 2011, with the Sale of Champions being conducted at 3:00 p.m., February 26th.

If you would like to volunteer some of your time, the NETLA Board will meet for its next meeting on December 6th, in the Sulphur Springs High School Vocational Agriculture Building.

The Market Show is participated in by youth from all across Hopkins County who are members of Hopkins County 4-H, and the FFA Chapters in Sulphur Springs, Cumby, Miller Grove, Como-Pickton, North Hopkins, and Sulphur Bluff.
