Basic Home Vegetable Gardening Program
Hosted On February 23rd
by: Dr. Mario Villarino
Hopkins County Agent
Gardening is one of the most rewarding activities during the spring. With our gardening season ready to start, the Hopkins County Master Gardeners have scheduled a basic home Vegetable Gardening program for February 23, 2010 6:30-9:00 pm at the Professional Ag Workers Building located at 957 Connally street in Sulphur Springs.
The topics to be cover include: soil preparation, watering, fertilization, plant and seed selection, insect control, mulching and lasagna gardening.
Lasagna gardening is an organic method of a no-till, no-dig gardening. It has nothing to do with what you plant on the vegetable garden but how you prepare the soil to plant. The idea is to place organic material in layers, that eventually will compost and result as a rich, fluffy soil that will help your plants to grow. Lasagna gardening is good for the environment, because you can use kitchen and yard waste into the mixture.
The basic home vegetable gardening seminar is free, so come and join us!
