Is Texas soon to be the new U.S. Wine Country? Well, it may be headed in that direction, as a local winery, Crump Valley Vineyards, were notified that they have become the 200th Texas Winery.

In October of 2009, LouViney’s made the decision to split the restaurant and winery into two separate businesses.  Based on recommendations for economics and growth, it made more sense.  LouViney’s restaurant and winery business has been doing very well.

Susann Briggs and Nancy Briggs will own and operate LouViney’s Steakhouse and Seafood Restaurant.  With the winery operations moved, the restaurant will be able to grow and add more flavor to the menu.

Travis Crump and Susan Jones will own and operate Crump Valley Vineyards.

Crump Valley Vineyards LLC was formed by Travis Crump and Susan Jones in November 2009.  After five months of paperwork and permitting, they became Texas ’ 200th winery in the state.  They didn’t realize they were the 200th winery until called by a wine columnist from the Greater Houston Weekly newspaper wanting an interview.

Crump Valley Vineyards has acquired all LouViney winery operations, wine business, and the existing 2 acre vineyard located in Hopkins County , Pickton area, as well as the Miranda Lambert bottling account.  Crump Valley Vineyards will continue to provide the same great wines for the LouViney restaurant as before, as well as the rapidly growing distribution of Miranda Lambert wines.

Crump Valley Vineyards is located on Hwy 19 South, approximately two miles south of I30.  They have installed a new, modern bottling line as well as a grape processing line, allowing them to have full control of the grapes from growing to harvesting and fermenting and finally bottling.

"In March 2010, Travis and I took 2,000 Blanc du Bois cuttings to expand our vineyard operations," related Susan Jones.  "The rooting process is showing a 95% success rate.  These cuttings will be planted at the winery location in Sulphur Springs, resulting in an additional 2 acres of vineyards.  Our plan is to plant an additional 2 acres every year for the next several years."

At the current time Crump Valley Vineyards is a commercial winery, not open to the general public.  Current plans include opening a wine tasting area and retail store in the future.
