"Limeades For Learning" Program
To Benefit Local Schools, Thru October 1st

by: Bobby McDonald

Sulphur Springs Elementary School Librarian and Media Specialist, Jeanine Boyett, is "begging" the public to drop by Sonic Drive-In, in Sulphur Springs, and order a drink to aid her students in obtaining first prize in the Sonic sponsored "Limeades for Learning" Program. The program allows those who purchase, any drink except coffee and Wacky Packs, to obtain a sticker on their cup. The sticker gives you instruction on how to vote for the local program, by going to the computer and inserting a code, as you vote for the local schools. "It's a great way to enjoy refreshments at the local drive-in and help the school children of Sulphur Springs," expressed Boyett. "We want to garner the most votes, so that Sonic will fund the new Mobile Media Program for SSIS Elementary Schools!"

The Mobile Media Program is a $2875.00 project that will allow all elementary students and faculty to utilize video in creating projects, lesson plans, and other learning experiences, as the equipment will be moved from school to school, ECLC thru Douglas Elementary. "In this age of digital media, our students need to develop the skills to be smart consumers of information," continued Boyett. "What better way to replicate the world of responsible media than to host our own campus production videos?"

During the "Limeades for Learning" promotion at Sonic Drive-In,
customers will receive a "peel" sticker on their cups, that gives instructions
on how to vote for the local project, via the computer.

"We recognize digital students are eager to show and share their knowledge in a myriad of possibilities such as: team building, working together, brainstorming, oral book reports and reviews, individual and group projects, presentations of research, announcing school events, and interviewing, reporting, and editing skills with real life purposes," expressed Boyett. "The project will include green scree technology and a telepromter for students to use in producing their productions."

"Lights, Camera, Learning" is the name of the program and Boyett is asking everyone in Hopkins County to support the project by going by Sonic Drive-In and ordering drinks to vote. "As a librarian in a small school district, I am always looking for creative ways to allow students to think outside the box," advises Boyett. "We need to meet the students where they are and then guide them to grow in all directions, and I feel that technology holds the key to their successes!"

So, the project is "in the hands" of you the public! By going by Sonic Drive-In and purchasing drinks, before October 1st and then coming home and following the instructions to vote for "Lights, Camera, Learning," you can help SSISD Elementary Students win the funding for their program.

"We had to designate one school, which was 'Bowie Elementary' for the contest, but all students in SSISD, ECLC through Douglas, will be able to utilize the project," stated Boyett. "We're counting on the citizens of Sulphur Springs to purchase the needed drinks and vote, and we want to thank Sonic Drive-In for making this program possible!"

"PLEASE VOTE FOR OUR PROJECT!" shouted the students in unison, on Tuesday afternoon!

Sulphur Springs ISD wishes to thank Sonic Drive-In for their participation in the education
process in Hopkins County!!!
