“Thank You” Reception for Lights of Life Campaign Sponsors
by: Jackie Thornton
Tuesday, March 31, 2009 - The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation and the Lights of Life Campaign committee will host a “thank you” reception for the sponsors tonight at the Memorial Plaza Conference Room, 6 – 8p.m. Dr. Bill and Peggy Dietze, 2008-2009 campaign chairs, will recognize the $10,000 STAR Sponsors; the HCMH Volunteer Auxiliary and Mickey & Barbara McKenzie, Grocery Supply Co. Over $120,000 was raised from the campaign this year and a portion of the funds were used to build the Children’s Therapy Gardens at Memorial and to finish out the children’s waiting areas in the new Emergency Department and in the children’s area on the newly renovated 3rd floor of the hospital.
Sponsors and guests will be invited to tour the Children’s Therapy Gardens and hear from Jeff Sant, director of physical therapy and Elsianne Horton, pediatric physical therapist, how the garden is already serving its purpose as an outdoor treatment area. Children ages 2 ½ yrs old and up are utilizing every aspect of the grounds and the equipment. Plans are for an additional swing to be ordered which will accommodate some of the more physically involved patients. “The children have amazed us as to what they can do and how much more willing they are to try difficult tasks with the playground as their motivation” states pediatric physical therapist, Elsianne Horton. “We are grateful to the Foundation board of directors for their vision and for their approval to provide funds for the project. The Lights of Life campaign is an important event for both the hospital and the community” says Sant.

Mickey McKenzie, 2009 Foundation Board Chair, is also expected to announce plans to continue the Lights of Life Gala. Craig and Jennifer Roberts have agreed to serve as campaign chairs for 2009-2010. The gala is scheduled for the 3rd Saturday in January; January 16, 2010 at the Civic Center. “We’re excited to work as a couple to not only serve our community, but to help improve healthcare in Hopkins County. Because of our own personal involvement with healthcare through treatment of our sons Matthew and Mark, we are honored to serve as the campaign chairs of this important and worthwhile event” states Roberts.

Everyone is encouraged to mark your calendars now for January 16, 2010 for the Lights of Life Gala.
