"Kidney Disease Clucks!!!"

Friends to Walk In Support of
Cumby Resident's Kidney Transplant

by: Bobby McDonald

Cumby resident and native, Cluck Caldwell,
is scheduled for a kidney transplant, this spring.

Friends, family, and supporters are planning to gather in Dallas, on Saturday, May 1st, for the 2010 Kidney Walk, in support of Cumby resident and native, Frances "Cluck" Caldwell. Caldwell, a secretary/receptionist at Cumby High School, is "on the list" for a kidney transplant, and will be receiving a kidney from her classmate and friend, Lou Ann Petty, from Cumby. Saturday's walk is sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation and will begin at 9:00 a.m., in Dallas, at the Reverchon Park's Katy Trail.

Local team participants should be in the Cumby Gym Parking Lot at 6:30 a.m., Saturday morning, when t-shirts will be given and the group will then leave at 6:45 a.m., for the trip to Dallas.

Saturday's walk is aimed to raise funds for kidney research and education and to offer support to Cluck and her family. Current team members are: Petty, Ashley Anderson, Lydia Anderwald, Brine Bearden, Carolyn Bearden, Wendi Bearden, Kendra Bell, Presley Clampitt, Beck Crumpton, Kelly Davis, Patti Earls, Karli Emmons, Naomi Higginbotham, Rodney Hobbs, Karelyn Huddleston, Judy Jones, Coy Matlock, AngieMcCrary, Robin Nabers, Kyle Pettis, Nikole Pettit, Melissa Petty, and Barbara Woodruff.

Cluck Caldwell is rapidly regaining her strength after double-bypass surgery, last December, which postponed the kidney transplant. She has to wait at least 6 months before she can have another major surgery. Her friend and donor, Lou Ann Petty, is also her second cousin and was confirmed as a match in November 2009.

Lou Ann Petty, left, will be giving Cluck Caldwell one of her
kidneys, once the "green light" is flashing for the operation,
that is expected sometime this summer.

Walk participants invited everyone to come-out on Saturday in support of Cluck and the National Kidney Foundation, as they proclaim "Kidney Disease Clucks!"
