Local Pastor Honored Sunday For
40 Years in the Ministry
by: Bobby McDonald
It was a suprise occasion for Kenneth Rhoades, on Sunday morning, when his congregation had planned a celebration in honor of his 40 years in the ministry. Rhoades and his wife, Patsy, have spent the past 26 years at Central Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs. "It doesn't hardly seem possible, that its been 40 years," exclaimed Rhoades, as he reflect on the journey that began with ordination in 1969. " But, then when you start going through your mind of the many, many joys, sorrows, and acquaintances that you've shared, they add up in a hurry!"
Rhoades was first called to Twin Falls, Idaho, where he and his family spent, 14 years, then it was in 1983, that they moved to the work here in Sulphur Springs, Texas, at Central Baptist Church. "I wouldn't change anything!" expressed a grateful Rhoades, as he reflected on his work. "You certainly don't enjoy the many sorrows that you're called upon to share with families in need, but you're glad that you can help them through difficult times. But, you wouldn't take for the deep relationships that you share with your fellow workers in the Lord and enjoy all the good times that the Lord blesses you with!"
Sunday morning's service, was dedicated to Rhoades' work and many former members of Central Baptist Church had been invited to share the milestone with him and his family.
Since coming to Sulphur Springs, Rhoades had seen the local church grow in numbers, the addition of a new sanctuary, a new Family Life Center, and children's building.
"I just hope the Lord sees fit to continue his blessing on me and my family, and to continue me to be able to serve," expressed Rhoades. "We are truly indebted to the many, many friends and congregation members in Hopkins County!"
A luncheon followed in the fellowship hall, following Sunday morning's service at Central Baptist Church, where staff, members, and guests had the opportunity to congratulate Rhoades and his wife, Patsy.
