Acts 8:1
…and there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

When reading scriptures like this one, many people choose to look at from the victim perspective. While it’s easy to sit back and pin the blame solely on the devil and the ones doing his bidding, the fact of the matter is that the church of that day, much like the church of today, had become content with being where they were and doing what they were doing. If you’ll recall, Jesus had commanded them to take the Gospel out from Jerusalem to the rest of the world. But that just wasn’t happening. They had become very good at doing church they way they had grown accustomed to rather the being the Church that Jesus had established. They had allowed the culture that they been raised in to actually become handcuffs that restricted them. That’s when the persecution started. Not because God ordained it, but because they has stepped out from under the protection that comes with obedience. Sound familiar? Christians in America today are good at complaining about what the government and other organizations are allowing and the country’s failing morals but most refuse to leave the four walls of their church to actually go out and be the Church. This is why it has become the norm see Christianity being more and more criticized while various religions and other ideals are being embraced. Have you been crippled by comfort? Are you stepping up to the call God has upon your life, not only inside of the church but in your personal life as well? Don’t let comfort and complacency be your gods.
