James (Jim) Taylor Simmons was released from this earth to go home on May 13, 2019. Jim was born on December 18, 1940 in Avinger Texas and died on May 13, 2019 sitting in his favorite chair next to the picture window that looks out on Lake Fork.  There was never any doubt in the minds of those who knew him that he was a Texan. The loves of his life in order were his God, his country, his wife and family, and then fishing and hunting; although fishing and hunting were sometimes moved up the list. He proclaimed himself a simple man with simple views, but those simple views were expressed vociferously and vehemently.

Jim attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets. He also attended Stephen F. Austin University. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He worked for the Army and Exchange Service (Military PX/BX) headquartered in Dallas, Texas for 31 years in Information Systems. During that tenure, he spent 2 ½ years in Munich Germany as the Director of European Information Systems and then came back to Dallas as Deputy Director of worldwide Information Systems. After retiring in 1999, Jim and his wife Peggy built a Log home on Lake Fork in Yantis, Texas where new friendships developed and lake life fulfilled his “bucket list”.

He is remembered and loved deeply by his wife Margaret (Peggy) Anne Malone Simmons, his daughters, Paula Annette Knerl, Jennifer Carol (Brad) Flynn, Dorsi Rachelle (Eric) Cooper.and Jamie Elaine (Jeff) Trevino; grandchildren Miranda Simmons, J.J. Trevino, Jensen Trevino, Lacey Cooper, Caley Cooper, great granddaughter Payton Simmons, his sister Alma Fay Erwin (Jack) and nephews Carter (Jana) Erwin and Brad (Gwen) Erwin; along with his extended family, a host of amazing friends, neighbors and his favorite fishing buddies. He was proceeded in death by parents Perry and Alta Simmons of Marshall, Texas.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home. www.westoaksfuneralhome.com
