Mark 6:49-50
49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50 for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

It’s easy as a believer to come to place in your walk, after having done the ‘Christian thing’ for a period of time, to think that you know just how and when God is going to show up and move in different situations. Many believers expect the Lord to meet a need or answer a request in a way that they’ve already predetermined in their minds. This is often referred to as ‘putting God in a box’. For instance, you have a financial need and for whatever reason you have decided that God is going to send you a check in the mail. Later that week, your workplace offers you some extra work because business in picking up but you turn it down. Even though this was obviously God trying to provide for that need, you turn it down because you already know how that need is supposed to be met. The disciples, when they saw Jesus operating as only He could, didn’t think it was Him because that’s not where they expected Him to be or how they planned on Him helping them. When you find yourself in a place or situation in which you need Him to act on your behalf, it is vital that you allow Him the opportunity to answer in His way and His time. If you’ll allow Him to, Jesus will reveal Himself in ways more specular than you could ever imagine and your faith will be strengthened because of it. After all, there’s a reason why He’s God and you’re not. He knows how to take care of His own and He does it to show how much He truly cares for His own. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
