Mark 6:48-49
And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them.

Have you ever been in a situation where those who are around you or those you are submitted to seem have more faith in you than you do in yourself? It’s easy to read today’s scripture text on a surface level and look at Jesus in this situation as being detached and even uncaring. Why would He intend to keep on walking and leave His disciples there to struggle and toil against the wind and waves. After all, the Bible says that He loved them and He had already put so much time and effort into discipling them. In spite of all that, it still says He was going to pass them by…that was His plan. Jesus, as the model of what a good leader should look and act like, was wanting to see just how much they could handle and if they would actually apply what they had already leared. Just like in sports, the coach doesn’t play the game for the players but He is right there on the sideline giving encouragement and instruction. Daily life will undoubtably bring moments of difficulty and testing. This passage never says that they were in danger of injury or death it just says that they were struggling. Jesus obviously wasn’t going to let them drown but He had faith in them that they would continue moving in the direction He had instructed them to. Does it feel like your life is moving painfully slow right now? Does it feel like everything is against you and Jesus is no where to be found? If so, know that just like with the disciples, He is never far away. He not overlooking your current situation, He is simply allowing you to see just how strong you really are giving you the opportunity to put into practice the things that He’s taught you along the way. He is right there with you, He believes in you and will be there to help you when you call. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
