John 11:23
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”
How you see or interpret the current situation you’re in will determine what you expect to come out of that situation. All too often people get so caught up in the momentary difficulties and challenges that come with everyday life that they lose sight of the bigger picture. Jesus was about to do something miraculous, but Martha was only focussed on what she interpreted as a loss and a let down. When you focus solely what is right in front of you without keeping the bigger picture in mind your expectancies will become based upon what is going on in the moment and not upon the promises that the Lord has given you. There is was a popular phrase that went around for a while that said, “Expectancy is the breeding ground for miracles.” This is a very true statement but you have to remember that if your expectancy becomes rooted it in the wrong beliefs because you spend too much dwelling on the imperfect things in life you will fail to experience the perfect. As hard as life can be, there is nothing so difficult or trying that He cannot redeem it and grow you as you overcome it by His grace.
