BRIGHT STAR FLOORS BANNER

Spring Break Sewing Workshop

Have you wanted to learn to sew, but didn’t know where to start?  Do you have a sewing machine, but you don’t know how to use it?  Are you looking for something to do during spring break that doesn’t break the bank?

I have the perfect solution for you – the Spring Break Sewing Workshop!  Our 4-H’ers recently participated in a 4-H Sewing Fun Day, and the question was brought up about having a more in-depth workshop, so I agreed.  Here are the details:

  • What:  Spring Break Sewing Workshop
  • When:  March 12, 13, 14
  • Where:  Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, 1200 W. Houston, Sulphur Springs
  • Time:  9:00 a.m. to 3:00-ish p.m.
  • Cost: $10 one-time fee, payable at the door
  • Bring:  sewing scissors, pins with ball heads, tape measure
  • All ages welcome, but children under the age of 10 should be accompanied by an adult

Several make-and-take projects will be provided at no extra charge.  Eight sewing machines are available for participants to use, or you may bring your own.  A sampling of things you will learn include:

–        How to thread and machine and fill the bobbin

–        Machine sewing techniques

–        How to read a pattern envelope

–        How to measure for correct size if making clothing

–        How to prepare fabric for cutting

–        Pattern placement

–        Applique technique to embellish items

–        Hand-sewing: buttons, hems, hook & eye closures, etc.

Do you want to learn to make a t-shirt quilt?  I can help!  Do you want to make a simple quilt block (or three or four)?  I can provide you with instructions for several simple designs.  If you have a project in mind, you are welcome to bring it, and we will help you.

To sign up, please call 903-885-3443 by Thursday, March 8, so adequate preparations can be made.

Are you in Love with your Home?

My cousin, who is a real estate agent in Dallas, recently provided six tips to re-kindle the romance with your home if the spark is gone.  I wanted to share these with you:

1)      Play musical chairs.  Re-arrange the furniture.

2)      Let it grow.  Potted plants add appeal with little maintenance.

3)      Less is more.  Ditching clutter relieves stress.

4)      Do a deep clean.  Scrub those baseboards and clean the windows.

5)      Make a list.  Decide what needs improving and prioritize your projects.

6)      Give a room a mini make-over.  Add new hardware to your cabinets, or pick up new organizing bins for your office.
