and construction would then begin on the East side of the highway, in the Seymour Community.

Interested citizens living along Highway-154, south of Sulphur Springs, met at Seymour Church of Christ, at a 6:00 p.m. meeting, Tuesday night, to hear the latest updates on the Highway-154 Improvement Project. It was announced that the new lanes on the Phase 1 portion of the project will be opened on Wednesday, October 27th, and construction will then begin on the east side of the road.

Littlefield explains some of the engineering concerns of completing Phase 3 of the project,
when detours for traffic would have to be made, in the "Crump Hills."

Brad Martin, local TxDot Engineer and Supervisor, and Bobby Littlefield, TxDOT District Manager, were both present to answer questions and to outline the plans for the remainder of the project. They informed citizens that Phase 2, the section of the highway, south of the Seymour Community to the Wood County line, will have bids "let" in December 2010. "Then, we already have the funding approved for the Phase 3 portion of the project, to complete improvement from Seymour to Shooks Chapel," advised Littlefield. "But, we have some engineering concerns about how we are going to detour traffic around the project, in the Phase 3 portion, and we have some property right-of-way, that must be negotiated, before we can begin that work. It is projected for 2012."

Martin and Littlefield conducted a "question and answer" period, following Tuesday night's presentation, and answered a number of questions from citizens.

Seymour resident, Kenneth Douglas, right, and Commissioner Beth Wisenbaker, discuss some
of the project, following Tuesday night's meeting, at Seymour Church of Christ.
