Tuesday Morning Ribbon Cutting
Opens New Highway
by: Bobby McDonald
The blessings of a Northeast Texas rain and thunderstorm, cut the grand opening ceremonies and ribbon cutting for the Highway-11 extension, short. However, everyone was excited about receiving a much needed rain for the area.
Both Mayor Gary Spraggins and County Judge Cleitis Millsap were forced to make only brief comments, and then the group joined a TxDot Truck with flashing lights, that led the entourage down the new highway to State Highway-19 and back to the original starting point at Broadway Street.
"This should open the city to expansion and hopefully direct some of the traffic on Broadway Street to other areas of the city, as the new thoroughfare is opened," expressed Tim Kelty, a longtime proponent of the expansion. "We've already got businesses and school securing property and beginning construction in the area!"
"We've also already had at least two 'fatalities' on the new roadway," joked Kelty. "Two feral hogs were killed night before last! Folks need to be careful driving the new highway at night and watch for them, as they have definitely been see in the area, and can do some real damage to a vehicle!"
The scenic drive down the new stretch of highway validates just how beautiful our area is and the potential for growth!
