SSHS Graduate Named
"Elementary Teacher of the Year" For Wylie ISD

Wylie, Texas - Wylie Independent School District is proud to honor Julie Horne Vaughan as the District Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2009-201! Julie is currently in her fourth year of teaching kindergarten at Birmingham Elementary School and it is apparent that she enjoys every minute of it! She is respected, loved, and admired by many as she is the most requested teacher at BES and serves on various campus and district leadership committees, as well as mentoring novice teachers throughout the district.

Julie is the daughter of Dr. Annette Horne, of Sulphur Springs, and the late Steve Horne, as well as the sister of 2004 Hopkins County Dairy Festival Queen, Leslie Horne. She moved with her family to Sulphur Springs in 1998 and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 2002. Her husband, Zach Vaughan, is also a SSHS graduate (2001) and is the son of Mike and Vickie Vaughan of Sulphur Springs. Julie attended Texas A&M University-Commerce and graduated Cum Laude in December of 2005. Both Julie and Zach currently reside in Sachse, a suburb of Wylie.

Julie would like to take this opportunity to express her appreciation for the education that she received from Sulphur Springs High School, during her formative years. It is evident that the supportive and nurturing foundation received at SSHS has positively impacted the person and professional Julie is today.
