It Was An "Old Fashioned" Christmas
At Hertitage Park

It was thousands of "lights aglow," and the warmth of "hearth and home," as the 2009 Christmas In The Park, unfolded on Saturday night, at Heritage Park. In what has become a Thanksgiving Holiday tradition for many families, the historical park was lit with Christmas lights, lanterns, and yes, a fire in the cabin, as attendees move from building to building, enjoying holiday music, fresh popped popcorn, cider, a visit with Santa, and other "old-fashioned" Christmas traditions.

The General Store was doing a "booming" business, as they sold trinkets and dispersed door prizes, from the ancient walls. And, lanterns lit the windows and bade welcome to the Vaden Cabin, where apple cider was served in the simplicity of a cabin on the frontier.

And, some of us thought we might have recognized the voice of Santa Claus, as he listened to the long lists of all the "good" boys and girls. It had a "distinct" ring to it, and might be recognized around City National Bank, if "Mrs. Claus," is at work!

Then, the Chapel at Heritage Park was all "decked out" in beautiful greenery and red, as candles lit the windows, and the First United Methodist Handbell Choir provided traditional music, and asked the audience to join in song. Kim Baxter, local vocalist, then lent her lovely voice to a number of songs, in solo.

Family time, spent together, was the major attraction, at Saturday night's feature, and what is fast becoming the perfect way to "load up the kids, and usher the season in on a high note!"

Heritage Park Christmas in the Park, will be open again at 5:30 p.m., on Friday, December 4th, and then will offer "drive-thru" viewing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Saturday night, December 5th. If you haven't had the opportunity, mark you calendars, and make one of these nights, for a welcome to the holiday season!

Thanks to the many, many volunteers at Heritage Park, who work tireless hours, to provide this wonderful attraction to Hopkins County and Northeast Texas.
