A regular meeting of the Sulphur Springs ISD school board was held Monday,

August 10, 2009.

 

PUBLIC FORUM

 

No one requested to address the Board during Public Forum.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS

Richard Crump, Claycomb Associates, Architects, presented the schematic designs for the new Middle School campus and multi-purpose building.

 

Betty Lawson reported on Parent Orientation activities on the various campuses.

 

Betty Lawson presented the State accountability ratings.

 

John McCullough reported on measures being taken to improve math & science TAKS scores at Sulphur Springs High School.

 

Dale Guest reported on the custodial services contract with Faulk Company.

 

ACTION ITEMS

 

Along with routine matters, the board approved the following:

 

Head Start Program Improvement Plan as a result of the Head Start Program Self-Assessment.

 

Head Start Statement of Philosophy & Mission Statement.

 

Compact with the Upper East Texas Tech-Prep/School-to-Work Partnership for 2009-2010.

 

One-year extension of bid for general classroom materials/office supplies from Quill Corporation & Latson’s as preferred vendors.

 

Continue Property/Casualty Insurance coverage for the district through Texas Association of Public Schools w/Offenhauser and Company, Texarkana, TX.

 

Appointed Jason Dietze as a representative to Ark-Tex Council of Governments.

BUDGET WORK SESSION

 

Miki Eddins, Director of Finance, provided board members with the first draft of the 2009-2010 budget for discussion.  The Board discussed the draft and Eddins will revise the budget and present a second draft at the August 17 budget work session.
