Harper's Ferry, West Virginia

Re-enactors present a creation of the battles at Harpers Ferry.
Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, is a great place to visit, especially if you're interested in the history of this country and the time period of the Civil War. The small town, located where the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers merge, is a scenic interlude into the history of this country. Three states, Virginia, Maryland, and West Viginia meet in the area and with railroad access, it was a strategic stronghold for both the Union and Confederate forces. However, if you're not steeped in history, it's a great place for water rafting, canoeing, and kyaking, as well.

Surrounded by steep mountains and scenic farms, the town is a great "getaway" for folks from Washington D.C., Baltimore, and other more populated areas. Definitely mark it as a travel destination when in the area!

The town is best known for John Brown's raid in 1859 and his subsequent hanging, in events that later led to the Civil War.

Enjoy these scenic photos of a remarkable area, near our nation's capital!

And, yes, for all you dairy farmers, there are scenic dairies in the area too.
This is Savage Leigh Dairy....

And, let me report that both the corn and the beans look to be growing well!
