"This is true liberty, when freeborn men,
Having to advise the public, may speak free;
What can be juster in a state than this?"

~ From Milton's translation of Euripedes ~

Over 600 Hopkins County residents crowded into the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center
to hear the discussion of the features of a Government Run Healthcare System, on Friday night.

In what was termed a "Town Hall Forum," in excess of 600 people crowded into the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, on Friday night, at 6:30 p.m., to hear features of what it is like to be under a government run healthcare system. The forum featured speakers: David Baucom, local insurance agent; Dr. Anthony Greco, a Mt. Pleasant Physician, who moved to Texas from Canada in 1997; and Dr. Isaac Osborn, another Mt. Pleasant Physician, who did his internship at Santa Barbra Memorial and had 5 years of practice in the Canadian Healthcare System.

The forum was sponsored by local physicians, The Hopkins County Tea Party Organization, The Mt. Pleasant Tea Party Organization, and the Hopkins County Republican Party.

Baucom opened the forum with a question, "Do you want the same people running your healthcare choices that run the U.S. Postal System, the recent 'Cash for Clunkers' Program, Medicare and Social Security? They haven't proven they can run those programs, so why do you want them to be involved more in your lives and making the decisions on what kind of healthcare you are to receive?"

Mt. Pleasant Physicians, Dr. Anthony Greco, left, and Dr. Isaac Osborne, right, were also featured
speakers at Friday night's forum.

Mt. Pleasant Physicians, Greco and Osborne, told of their experiences in practicing medicine and dealing with a government run healthcare systems. They sited examples of patients who died, while waiting for an approval on procedures, and the rigid controls patients would be required to get a prescription filled. "You must act now and contact your congressman and let them know that, although our current healthcare system has faults, it certainly is much better than one controlled by a government.

Of course, the forum was held in response to the current H.R. 3200 Bill that is being debated nationally and supported by President Barak Obama.

"We encourage you to become informed and let your senators and representatives know how you feel on these issues," warned Friday night's speakers. "This is a grave infringement on your freedoms!"
