Local Genealogical Society Hosts Christmas Party
and Installs New Officers
by: Bobby McDonald
Genealogical Society members enjoyed a delicious Christmas meal prior to their program
on Thursday night.
It was a festive night at the Hopkins County Genealogical Society Library, on historic Main Street, when members and guests gathered for the annual Christmas party and officers installation, on Thursday night. "It's a night of fun and one intended for everyone to sit back and have a relaxed evening!" advised outgoing president, Rita Adams.
The group enjoyed a meal of finger foods, plenty of conversation and "banter" and conducted a silent auction, to begin the evening.
Outgoing president, Rita Adams, began handing-out Santa hats for the new officers.

Following the meal, Adams, in her always unique way, asked the new officers for 2010 to line-up, and quickly delivered a Santa Claus hat to each one. As she gathered her own "hat" she began the ceremony with humor and candor, and installed each of the newly elected officers. Marynell Anderson Bryant, who will be serving as president for the upcoming year, was unable to attend due to an illness in her family.
"We're looking for a great year and even more information being added to the local library, as well as some wonderful programs to aid researchers in finding their family clues," expressed John Sellers, one of the new officers. "It promises to be an exciting year in 2010!"
This group of "Santa's Helpers" will be leading the Hopkins County Genealogical Society
in 2010.
