Gazing at the Skies....
by: Bobby McDonald
Monday afternoon offered a beautifully lit sky near sunset.
With most people focused on "heavenly" thoughts, during the Christmas Season, it was only natural that everyone would be looking to the skies, when overnight, the first lunar eclipse that coincided with the beginning of winter solstice, since 1648 took place. This a period when the moon is completely "blanked-out" by the shadow of the earth for a period of time. In this case, for approximately 3 hours, at around 3:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 21st. And, Tuesday, December 21st will be the shortest day of the year, as winter solstice begins.
Enjoy these photos (and, no I didn't stay up all night):
A beautiful full moon at 6:30 p.m., Monday, December 20th.
A bright "orb" at 10:30 p.m.

And, shadows began to form around 1:30 a.m., Tuesday morning.
2:30 a.m., Tuesday morning.....
5:00 a.m., Tuesday morning....
And, a glorious sunrise, on Tuesday morning, offers faint light in the east....
