Most folks in Hopkins County were awaken about 2:00 a.m., Saturday, as a band of thunderstorms made their way across Hopkins County, from the southwest, with intense thunder, lightning, high winds, and rain. Some reported hail mixed with the violent storms.

"We didn't have any power practically all day Saturday," reported one resident in the Como area of Hopkins County. "And we had trees down in the roadways and the county crews out cutting them up! The thunder and lightning was intense and nearly 'raised you out of the bed' as the storm moved through!"

Utility poles in the Winnsboro area were "toppled over" by the storms in that area.

Neighboring Winnsboro was the hardest hit in the local area with downed trees, blocked roads, and power outages until well after noon, on Saturday.

Streets were blocked in some areas of neighboring Winnsboro, on Saturday as power was restored and
fallen trees were removed from streets.

"We woke up without any power and with electric and telephone poles 'snapped off' by the winds from the storm," advised one Winnsboro business owner. "But, we're thankful that the utility people were out early and began to get the power restored and the clean-up efforts started."

Hopkins County inmates who were "manning" the Precinct County Clean-up Campaign reported
a number of trees and debris being brought to their locations from the storms, on Friday night and Saturday morning.
