"Change of Ownership"
Northeast Texas Food Banks Donates
Building to Community Chest
by: Bobby McDonald
A building, located on Linda Drive in Sulphur Springs, that had been used as a warehouse for the Northeast Texas Food Bank, was donated on Tuesday afternoon, to the local Community Chest organization. The building that had been used until last October to store food collected by the local charities in Hopkins County, became obsolete, when the food supplies were sent to the main distribution center in Denton.
"We no longer had a need for the building, and wanted it to go to some other charity in Hopkins County," explained John Berning, with the Northeast Texas Food Bank Board of Directors. "That's when we learned that there was a need for the Community Chest organization to be housed in our building. A vote by our board of directors allowed for the transfer to take place!"
"We thought that those individuals and corporate donors who had supported the original need for the warehouse would want us to donate the building to some other community charity," allowed Tim Glenn, also a member of the Food Bank Board of Directors. "Thus, we were delighted that Community Chest needed the space and could use it for their community outreach programs, for the needy!"
On Tuesday afternoon, at Professional Land and Title Company, the transaction was made, with Lucy Vaden and Beth Wisenbaker of the Community Chest, accepting the donation of the building, which will be used to house the operations of the local organization.
